Make-Up Tips

7 April 2010

From liquid, mineral powder to compact one’s, nowadays there are plenty of choices and options suitable for different skin types and age. Top make-up artists Aisling Eyre gives us some tips and recommendations helping you to choice the best option.

Tinted moisturiser
This is a moisturiser and foundation blended into one product and is very handy if you are in a hurry! It is light on covering up so its best suited to good skin in need of a little cover or added colour. Ideally this is applied with your fingers and used as a daily moisturiser.

Mineral powders
Taking the make-up industry by storm at the moment are the ‘Mineral Powders’. I needed some convincing when these first arrived and now I’m a fan! Not only are these powders packed full of ingredients which are good for your skin, but are also suitable for all skin types and especially sensitive skin. They are most effective when brushed on with a good solid thick ‘kabuki’ brush.

Liquid foundation
The base most of us are familiar with. This can be used to create light cover or larger amounts can be used for stronger cover. Traditionally these were applied with sponges but now more and more people are investing in a ‘foundation brush’ to achieve an ‘air brush’ effect.

HD (High Definition foundation)
Originally formulated for the film industry these foundations are used to give flawless complexions without a ‘caked on’ finish. They are oil free so perfect for oily skin as well as other skin types. Also a liquid, high definition make-up gives its best result when it is brushed on.

Compact foundation
Heavier than the others, compact foundation gives ’super flawless’ coverage. Suited to all skin types this is generally chosen for its strength of cover. Compact foundation needs a little more attention than the others when blending, but the appeal of these is taking your time when you are doing your make-up. Most come with a sponge which is the easiest way to apply this foundation.
